Studying Artificial Intelligence Online in Texas

Each program here is run by a school headquartered in Texas and taught fully online. With only four to compare, we rank all of them and say plainly where each one is thin. Scores are built within a level, so the three master's programs are measured against one another and the bachelor's is measured on its own.

We have no Texas online AI doctorate or associate degree. Need more options? Our national lists cover schools in every state, and a Texas resident can enroll in any of them from home.

Method

How We Chose These Programs

We started with every online artificial intelligence program offered by a school headquartered in Texas and scored each one against others at the same level. Cost, graduation rate, online flexibility, fit with AI careers, program depth and the school's track record all count. If a school hasn't published a number, we leave it out rather than guess. Our full method is on the methodology page.

  • School based in Texas, program delivered online
  • In-state rate shown when the school publishes one
  • Scored on the same five factors as every list and ranked inside its degree level

Scores are the weighted sum of five factors (Cost 30%, Outcomes 25%, Online Flexibility 20%, Program Depth 10%, Track Record 15%), version 1.0. The methodology page shows the rubric for each factor.

Texas high school graduates and transfer students looking for a bachelor's, not a master's, will find almost nothing else like this in the state. The University of Texas at Austin

Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence (Online)

    School based in Texas

    • Fully Online

Why it ranks #1: its school's IPEDS graduation rate is 89% and it is fully online with 16-week terms.

    In-State Facts

Austin's flagship campus runs this degree entirely online, and it works out to about $1,000 per 3-credit course. That makes it the Texas option to beat if money matters. Choose it with a computer science, engineering or math bachelor's in hand. Admission leans on that technical background, so Texans switching careers from other fields may struggle here.

    In-State Facts

Denton's public university gives Texans a way to test the water before committing. A 12-hour graduate certificate comes first, and all 12 credit hours can count toward the 33-credit master's. Pick it if you want a STEM-designated degree with Machine Learning, Biomedical Engineering or Autonomous Systems focus. Plan for two to three years, and expect that the $18.7K resident estimate rises for out-of-state students.

Choosing Between the Texas Master's Programs

The three master's programs look alike on paper, and they differ in who they're built for.

UT Austin's degree is 30 credits, taught through its Computer & Data Science Online unit. Lectures are on demand and instructor-paced. It asks for a bachelor's degree, typically in computer science, engineering, mathematics or a related field, and it doesn't require the GRE.

UNT's degree is 33 credits and offers concentrations in Machine Learning, Biomedical Engineering and Autonomous Systems. It is STEM-designated. Texas A&M's 30 credits come from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and the program is taught only at a distance.

What a Texas Online AI Degree Costs

UT Austin is the clearest price in the state. It prints $10,000 in total tuition, about $1,000 per 3-credit course, and international student fees and late registration fees may apply. That works out to $333 per credit.

UNT estimates $18.7 thousand for a Texas resident, and the figure changes with residency. Texas A&M leaves the number to its tuition calculator, where you choose the Engineering college and Remote instruction. Run it before you compare.

Starting With a Certificate Before You Commit

Two Texas schools let you try graduate AI work before you commit to a full master's. UT Austin's Graduate Certificate in Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning is four courses and 12 credits, and its credits can transfer into the online master's.

UNT's 12-credit certificate is designed for students from STEM backgrounds. All 12 hours apply toward the 33-hour master's. Certificates have their own page, so see our certificate list for prices and details.

The Online AI Bachelor's Degree in Texas

Angelo State University in San Angelo offers a Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence and says it is one of the few Texas schools to offer its AI degree programs online. If you are starting a bachelor's from scratch and want a public university in your home state, it is the Texas option on this list.

Before you apply, ask admissions for the current per-credit rate, the total credits and whether every course can be taken online.
