How We Chose These Programs
A program lands here when its title or a named concentration points to business, management, leadership, strategy, product or decision-making work, and the school delivers it online. We confirm cost, credits and format on the school's own pages. Degrees are ranked within their level, and certificates only against other certificates, using cost, outcomes, flexibility, depth and track record. The details are on our methodology page.
- Business, management, leadership, enterprise, strategy, product or decision in the program title or a concentration
- Delivered online, with cost, credits and format confirmed on the school's own pages
- Ranked by our program score within each degree level; certificates are ranked only against other certificates
Scores are the weighted sum of five factors (Cost 30%, Outcomes 25%, Online Flexibility 20%, Program Depth 10%, Track Record 15%), version 1.0. The methodology page shows the rubric for each factor.

Decide Whether You Manage AI or Build It
Business AI programs fall into two camps, and the admissions page tells you which one you're reading.
The management camp assumes you'll lead teams that use AI. Boston University says its AI in Business degree needs no coding background and has you write an AI in Business Playbook for real business needs. Georgetown takes a bachelor's in any field and offers an AI Strategy and Leadership concentration. Brandeis lists no technical prerequisites for its AI-Driven Leadership certificate.
The technical camp expects math or code before you start. Johns Hopkins lists calculus, linear algebra, probability, statistics and Python. Michigan-Dearborn asks for a STEM bachelor's and prior programming coursework. Duke is designed for working professionals with a technical or scientific background.
A few programs sit in between. Arizona accepts any bachelor's, but its entry test covers statistics, Python and SQL, and it wants six credit hours of business coursework. Purdue lets you pick: its AI and Machine Learning major wants programming and calculus, while AI Management and Policy wants 24 months of work experience.
If you want a business-first path, start with the programs that state no coding requirement.
Compare Total Tuition, Not Per-Credit Rates
Per-credit prices hide how much a degree costs, because credit counts differ. Cincinnati's non-resident rate is $1,160 per credit for 30 credits, Arizona charges a flat $1,250 per credit for 30 credits, and Oregon State lists $965 per credit for 45 credits. Check the credit count before you compare.
Flat totals are easier. Boston University's $25,000 covers a 32-credit degree. Purdue's $28,500 is 30 credits at $950, tuition only. Johns Hopkins totals $56,200 if you take all ten courses within one academic year. Duke's school estimate adds a $120 transcript fee and $676 for books to its tuition, for $77,446 in total.
Watch for fees outside the tuition line. Boston University's Enterprise AI degree includes two required 0-credit onboarding modules before the first semester. Saint Louis University says additional charges may apply on top of its $810 online graduate rate. Oregon State says its rate doesn't include course materials and associated fees.
Ask each admissions office for a written total before you apply.
Use a Certificate to Test the Field First
A certificate is the cheapest way to find out whether AI work suits you. Rochester's AI in Business certificate lists $7,500 for three 2.5-credit courses in seven-week terms, with live sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Penn State's two business certificates are nine credits each at $1,048 and $1,089 per credit, and Cincinnati's is 12 credits at $1,145 per credit.
Credits may carry forward. Rochester says its certificate credits can apply toward Simon's Online MS in Business Analytics and Applied AI. Cincinnati says its AI in Business certificate credits transfer into its master's. Saint Louis University says you can earn a graduate certificate that complements the master's, often without additional credits.
Save a note about transfer rules: they apply at the school that issues the certificate, not across schools.
The tradeoff is aid. Penn State says certificate students are nondegree and not eligible for federal student aid, so a certificate may mean paying out of pocket or through an employer. Ask your HR team about tuition benefits first.
Match the Schedule to Your Job
Format varies more than the word online suggests. Georgetown and Cincinnati describe their classes as asynchronous, so you can work around your day. Rochester's certificate holds live sessions on set evenings, and Duke's degree is listed as synchronous.
Pace matters too. Arizona lists 12 months for its master's, and Cincinnati's full-time path takes three semesters, or about 36 months part time. Boston University's AI in Business degree can finish in as little as 16 months, and it allows up to six years. Montclair State has one start a year, while Georgetown has three and Oregon State has four.
If you're working full time, look at the term length and the number of starts before you look at the school name. Missing a start date can cost you months.
