The best online AI degrees for working adults are fully online, mostly asynchronous, and paced in short terms or part-time loads. This list has 14 programs: 3 bachelor's and 11 master's. Western Governors University bills a flat $4,200 per six-month term, Colorado Boulder totals $15,750, and Georgetown runs $52,560, so cost and pace vary far more than the labels suggest.

How We Chose These Programs
A program makes this list when the school pitches it to working adults, or when its own page shows asynchronous classes, short terms or part-time pacing that fit around a full-time job.
We confirm the format on the school's program page, then rank everything that qualifies on the same measures used across the site: cost, outcomes, flexibility, depth and track record. Sponsored status never changes a ranking.
The details are on our methodology page.
- Asynchronous classes, short terms, part-time pacing or a stated working-adult focus
- Format details confirmed on the school's program page
- Ranked by our program score within each degree level
Scores are the weighted sum of five factors (Cost 30%, Outcomes 25%, Online Flexibility 20%, Program Depth 10%, Track Record 15%), version 1.0. The methodology page shows the rubric for each factor.

99.6- Fully Online
- Asynchronous
- Private nonprofit
Why it ranks #1: it is fully online and asynchronous with 12 starts a year; its school awards about 1,096 bachelor's degrees a year in this field per IPEDS (the most among bachelor's programs on this list); and its school's IPEDS graduation rate is 46% (higher than 3 of 4 other bachelor's programs on this list).
FlexibilityWorking adults who already know some tech can turn spare evenings into savings here. WGU bills a flat $4,200 per six-month term, study is asynchronous, and start dates fall on the 1st of every month. Every extra course you finish inside a term costs nothing more. The catch is that a stalled term costs the same $4,200, and the typical 24 months is an estimate, not a promise.

The University of Tennessee-Knoxville
Online Bachelor of Science in Applied Artificial Intelligence

Why it ranks #2: it is fully online and asynchronous with 3 starts a year; its school's IPEDS graduation rate is 74% (the highest among bachelor's programs on this list); and it offers an internship.
FlexibilityAnyone finishing a bachelor's around a full-time job gets a flagship name without a campus visit. Courses have no live sessions, and Fall, Spring and Summer starts mean a bad month at work only delays you one term. Tennessee residents pay $490 a credit, everyone else $565. The estimated 48 months assumes little transfer credit, so bring every credit you have.

Grand Canyon University
Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence (Online Option)
School based in Arizona
88.2- Fully Online
- Private for-profit
Why it ranks #3: it is fully online with 7- and 15-week terms, and it charges $490 per credit, but its school awards about 37 bachelor's degrees a year in this field per IPEDS (fewer than 4 of 5 other bachelor's programs on this list).
FlexibilitySeven-week online courses mean you only juggle a class or two while the workweek keeps going. Grand Canyon charges $490 a credit for the online format, which puts the 120 credits at $58,800. It ends with a capstone project. The trade-off is a 43% graduation rate in federal data, so ask how advisors help adults who fall behind.

Why it ranks #5: it is fully online with 5-week terms and its school awards about 293 bachelor's degrees a year in this field per IPEDS (more than 4 of 5 other bachelor's programs on this list), but its school's IPEDS graduation rate is 19% (the lowest among bachelor's programs on this list).
FlexibilityFive-week courses give you the fastest turnaround of any bachelor's on this list, so a rough month at work only costs you one short class. CTU's Fast Track exams can trim time and tuition. The degree is 183 quarter credits, and federal data shows a 19% graduation rate, so check the support you'd get before enrolling.

Why it ranks #6: it is fully online with 7.5- and 15-week terms, and it offers an internship, but its school awards about 20 bachelor's degrees a year in this field per IPEDS (the fewest among bachelor's programs on this list).
FlexibilityShort modules help when your work hours swing. UAT teaches asynchronous 7.5-week modules, two at a time, so you carry only two classes at once toward 120 credits. Veterans see $7,150 per 9-credit semester online, while everyone else pays $10,300 per 12-credit semester plus a $495 resource fee. FlexibilityStackable pieces let you earn a certificate first and decide on the full degree later. Washington's route is two graduate certificates plus a two-quarter applied capstone, all doable part time online. The 2025-26 estimate is $40,375 to $43,088. The catch is a single start each year, and a 3.0 GPA plus prerequisite coursework is required.

Match the Schedule Format to Your Work Hours
Asynchronous means no live class meetings, so you watch lectures and turn in work on your own clock. Penn, Georgetown, Cincinnati, Tennessee, Colorado Boulder and both Western Governors programs describe their classes this way. If your shifts change week to week, that matters more than any ranking.
Term length changes how the work feels. Florida Atlantic's 4-week courses let you focus on one subject at a time, but a missed week is a big share of the course. Saint Louis University and Colorado Boulder run 8-week terms, and San Diego's courses last 7 weeks, two at a time.
Start dates decide how long a setback costs you. Colorado Boulder starts six times a year. Georgetown, San Diego, NJIT and Tennessee start three times. Cincinnati and Western Governors start twice, so a bad month can mean waiting half a year.
Price by the Term, the Course, or the Credit
These schools bill three different ways, and the headline number hides it. Western Governors charges $4,200 per six-month term for the bachelor's and $4,385 for the master's, no matter how many courses you finish inside that term. That rewards fast, disciplined study and punishes a stalled term.
Penn charges $3,859 per course, which lets you ask an employer to reimburse one course at a time. Most others bill per credit, from $800 at Florida Atlantic to $1,752 at Georgetown.
Fees come on top at several schools. San Diego lists student fees, Saint Louis University warns that additional charges may apply, and University of Advancing Technology adds a $495 resource fee each semester. Penn says tuition can change yearly, so a slower schedule can cost more by the end.
Check Prerequisites Before You Pick a Program
Working adults often lose weeks to an application that was never going to be accepted. The programs here split into two groups. Georgetown and Cincinnati accept a bachelor's in any field, and Saint Louis University says no prior STEM degree is required. Purdue's AI Management and Policy major asks for at least 24 months of work experience.
The technical programs ask for more. Florida Atlantic expects calculus, statistics and programming proficiency. NJIT wants prior coursework in calculus, programming, data structures, probability and linear algebra, and Michigan-Dearborn asks for a STEM bachelor's with a 3.0 GPA.
Colorado Boulder is the unusual one. You pass a three-course pathway with a B or better in each, and there is no traditional application. It works as a low-risk trial of the program before you commit to the full cost.
