How We Chose These Programs
A program makes this list only when its own school page describes it as fully online, with no required campus visit, residency or on-site exam. We then rank every program on the same measures used across the site: cost, outcomes, online flexibility, program depth and track record. Programs are compared with others at the same degree level. The details are on our methodology page.
- Delivery confirmed as fully online on the school's program page
- No campus visit, residency or proctored on-site exam required
- Ranked by our program score within each degree level
Scores are the weighted sum of five factors (Cost 30%, Outcomes 25%, Online Flexibility 20%, Program Depth 10%, Track Record 15%), version 1.0. The methodology page shows the rubric for each factor.

100.0- Fully Online
- Public
Why it ranks #1: it is fully online with 16-week terms and 3 starts a year, and it charges $373.80 per credit (tied for the lowest among bachelor's programs on this list).
Fully online deliveryPick this if you want an online AI degree aimed at running AI in a business, not building it. Dakota State publishes its price, $373.80 per credit, or $44,856 over 120 credits before fees, which is easy to budget around. Fall, Spring and Summer starts keep the entry point flexible. Out-of-state online computer science courses cost more, so check which rate applies.

Indiana University-Bloomington
Online Bachelor of Arts in Artificial Intelligence
School based in Indiana
99.8- Fully Online
- Public
Why it ranks #2: it is fully online with 4 starts a year; its school's IPEDS graduation rate is 80% (the highest among bachelor's programs on this list); and it offers an internship and a thesis option.
Fully online deliveryIndiana's own page labels this degree "100% Online," so nothing in the 120 credit hours sends you to Bloomington. That makes it a clean fit for someone who can't move but wants a big public research university behind an AI bachelor's. It's a B.A., so expect a broader, less code-heavy program than the B.S. options here. Ask for the online tuition rate before you apply.

Why it ranks #3: it is fully online and asynchronous with 12 starts a year, and its school awards about 1,096 bachelor's degrees a year in this field per IPEDS (the most among bachelor's programs on this list).
Fully online deliveryWGU is the online degree built around speed. Study is asynchronous, start dates fall on the 1st of every month, and tuition is $4,200 per six-month term instead of a per-credit price. The school lists roughly 24 months. Choose it if you already have some technical skill and can work quickly, because a term costs the same whether you finish a little or a lot.

Why it ranks #4: it is fully online with 3 starts a year and its school's IPEDS graduation rate is 54% (higher than 8 of 10 other bachelor's programs on this list).
Fully online deliveryMost programs on this list give you one way to study. Indianapolis lets you take the same AI degree fully online or on campus, with Fall, Spring and Summer starts, which helps if your plans might change midway. You choose a B.A. or B.S. version. Ask admissions for the credit count and price before you commit.

Why it ranks #5: it is fully online with 16-week terms and 3 starts a year, and it charges $373.80 per credit (tied for the lowest among bachelor's programs on this list), but its school awards 1 bachelor's degree a year in this field per IPEDS (the fewest among bachelor's programs on this list).
Fully online deliveryThis is Dakota State's hands-on, technical online AI degree, and it uses the same $373.80 per credit rate as its business-focused sibling, so the choice comes down to what you want to do. You'd write and test AI systems here. A one-year accelerated master's path is also listed, which could shorten your total time. Fully online deliveryPick this doctorate if your research question sits in machine learning and you can't relocate to Laurel, Maryland, because there are no residencies. You may finish with a thesis or three accepted journal articles. Tuition is $980 per credit, $58,800 for 60 credits, and Capitol says credits can run past 60 if your research takes longer. That's a real cost risk on a part-time schedule.

How to Confirm a Program Is Really Online
Schools word this differently, so read the program page closely. Capitol Technology University says its doctorates are online with no on-campus classes or residencies required, Maryville says no campus visits are required, and Texas A&M says its online M.S. in AI is not taught on campus. That is the kind of plain statement to look for.
Some pages are looser. The University of Washington says full online completion is possible part time, but some optional component certificates are in person only. The University of Bridgeport tells international students to apply to its on-campus program. Dakota State's AI bachelor's page carries an On Campus label next to the online tuition rate.
Before you apply, ask admissions three questions in writing. Are any exams proctored at a testing site? Is there a residency, practicum or capstone event you must attend? Does your home state change anything about enrollment? Colorado Boulder says its price covers exam proctoring, which is a useful detail to ask other schools about.
What Online AI Tuition Really Costs
Per-credit price is the easiest number to compare, but it is rarely the whole bill. Dakota State charges $373.80 per credit online for its AI bachelor's, and non-resident students pay $491.50 because of a $117.70 delivery fee. Maryville adds a technology fee of $775 per semester. Capitol Technology University adds $55 per credit. The University of Advancing Technology lists a resource fee of $495 per semester.
Some schools quote one total instead. The University of Texas at Austin lists $10,000 for its master's, and Boston University lists $25,000 for four of its online master's programs. Other schools, such as Texas A&M, point you to a tuition calculator.
Use the same method for every school you consider. Multiply credits by the rate, then add every fee the school lists. If you mainly want the lowest price, our cheapest online AI degrees list sorts by cost.
Live Classes or Self-Paced Study
A 100% online label tells you where you study, not when. George Washington's master's is listed as 100% live online, so you log in at set times. Boston University's Enterprise AI program runs weekly live sessions. Cincinnati's AI Management program and Georgetown's AI Management program are asynchronous, and Colorado Boulder's Coursera-based degree is self-paced with eight-week courses.
If your work hours change often, an asynchronous program saves you from missed sessions. If you learn better with a deadline and a room full of classmates, a live format helps. Ask each school which format it uses. Our online AI degrees for working adults list highlights programs built around a job schedule.
Picking a Level Before You Pick a School
Most of this list is graduate study, and it is worth deciding on a level first. A bachelor's takes about 120 credits at most schools here, and Indiana University Bloomington offers a B.A., so a program with less math and code is possible. A master's takes about 30 credits and often assumes a technical background.
Only 10 programs here say the GRE is not required, including Purdue and the University of Texas at Austin. If a test is what stands between you and a master's, see our list of online master's in AI with no GRE.
The associate degree at Wayne Community College lists in-state tuition of $76 per semester hour. Capitol's two doctorates are the only research-level options on the list.
