The fastest online AI degrees on this list are 30-credit master's programs that finish in as few as 12 months or run short four to eight week terms. Only Arizona fixes the calendar at 12 months. Prices run from $15,750 at Colorado Boulder to $71,079 at Northeastern Connect, so speed and cost don't move together.

How We Chose These Programs
We include a program when it's an online AI master's with either a stated finish time of 12 months or less, or short terms of eight weeks or fewer. Programs are sorted by the fastest stated duration, then by our overall score.
We check duration, term length, start dates and entry requirements on each school's own page, and list the school's range when it gives one rather than only its best case. Our full scoring method is on the methodology page.
- Terms of 8 weeks or shorter, or a stated finish time of 12 months or less for a master's
- Duration taken from the school's own program page
- Ranked by duration, then by our score
Scores are the weighted sum of five factors (Cost 30%, Outcomes 25%, Online Flexibility 20%, Program Depth 10%, Track Record 15%), version 1.0. The methodology page shows the rubric for each factor.

Purdue University-Main Campus
Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence (Online)
School based in Indiana
80.9- Fully Online

Why it ranks #1: it can be finished in as few as 12 months (tied for the shortest among master's programs on this list); its school awards about 119 master's degrees a year in this field per IPEDS (more than 10 of 13 other master's programs on this list); and it offers 2 concentrations and a capstone.
PacePurdue lists a 12 to 24 month window, so it speeds up only if you take the full course load. At $950 a credit, the 30 credits come to $28,500 in tuition, which is cheaper than most one-year options here. Pick it if you already have programming, calculus and linear algebra and want to be done within a year, because the technical major requires them.

Why it ranks #2: it can be finished in as few as 12 months (tied for the shortest among master's programs on this list), its school's IPEDS graduation rate is 91% (higher than 11 of 12 other master's programs on this list), and it offers 3 concentrations.
PaceFall and Spring starts mean you can begin within months rather than waiting for one annual intake, and the program can be finished in 12 months at its fastest, 20 at its slowest. Northeastern estimates $30,500 for 2026-2027, fees excluded. It suits an engineer or analyst who wants a quick applied degree, but the entry rules send everyone else to the Connect version.

Why it ranks #3: it can be finished in as few as 12 months (tied for the shortest among master's programs on this list), its school's IPEDS graduation rate is 91% (higher than 11 of 12 other master's programs on this list), and it offers 3 concentrations.
PacePlan on 12 to 24 months here, and note that the extra nine credit hours of skill-building courses come before the regular curriculum. That makes it the slowest and priciest entry in this chunk, at an estimated $71,079 for 2026-2027 without fees. Choose it only if you're switching fields and the standard Applied AI program won't accept your background.

Why it ranks #4: it can be finished in as few as 12 months (tied for the shortest among master's programs on this list) and its school awards about 148 master's degrees a year in this field per IPEDS (more than 11 of 13 other master's programs on this list).
PaceUIC can be completed in as few as 12 months, which means fitting nine courses into a single year. That's 36 credit hours at $896, or $32,256 before fees, with no thesis to slow you down. It works for a working engineer who can handle a heavy load, though the degree is a Master of Engineering with an AI concentration rather than an AI-titled degree.

Why it ranks #5: it can be finished in as few as 12 months (tied for the shortest among master's programs on this list) and its published tuition is $15,750 (the lowest among master's programs on this list), but its school's IPEDS graduation rate is 74% (lower than 8 of 13 other master's programs on this list).
PaceEight-week courses and six start dates a year let you move as fast as your schedule allows, and the program says finishing in 12 months is possible. At $15,750 total, it's the cheapest quick degree on this list. The catch is the gate: you must earn a B or better in three pathway courses first, so the clock starts before enrollment, not after.

PaceGeorgetown says you can finish in as little as one year full time, with three starts a year and asynchronous courses you can fit around a job. Any bachelor's field is accepted. The price is steep, though. At $1,752 a credit, 30 credits total $52,560 based on the Fall entry rate. It fits a manager who values speed and the Georgetown name.

PaceCincinnati is quick if you go full time, at 12 months, but part-timers should expect about 36. That 12-month path suits a business graduate with a B average who can commit to asynchronous study. At $1,145 a credit for Ohio residents, 30 credits is $34,350. A certificate in Artificial Intelligence in Business can transfer in, letting you start smaller and finish faster.

PaceIf speed is your filter, this is the tightest calendar you'll find here: FAU packs 30 credits into four-week courses and says you can be done in about 18 months. That's a full master's for $24,000 total. Choose it if you already have calculus, statistics and programming, because those are expected before day one. Why it ranks #3: its school's IPEDS graduation rate is 44% and its school awards about 165 bachelor's degrees a year in this field per IPEDS.
PaceFull Sail is the only bachelor's here built as a completion program, in an accelerated format with monthly class starts. Because your earlier college credit or associate degree counts, you skip repeating basics and begin within weeks. The course order is fixed, so there's no scheduling to sort out each term. A math assessment is required to enroll, and no length or tuition is published, so request both.

What Accelerated Means in Practice
Most of these programs promise speed in the same words: "as few as 12 months." That is a ceiling on how quick you can be, not a schedule. Purdue's window runs 12 to 24 months, Northeastern's Applied AI runs 12 to 20 months, and West Virginia's runs one to three years. Cincinnati's AI Management degree takes 12 months full time and about 36 months part time.
Arizona is the exception. Its AI for Business degree is set at 12 months with no slower option, which helps if you want a firm end date and hurts if your job gets busy mid-year.
Before you pick, find the pace the school plans around. Georgetown calls its one-year path full time, and says part-time scheduling is also available.
Short Terms Versus a Short Calendar
A four-week or eight-week course is easier to fit around work, because each class ends quickly. It doesn't shrink the degree. Florida Atlantic's professional AI master's runs four-week courses and still states about 18 months for 30 credits.
San Diego takes two seven-week courses per term across Spring, Summer and Fall, which adds up to roughly 20 months. Saint Louis University and Colorado Boulder both use eight-week terms.
If you want the quickest finish, look at how many courses you may take in a term, not only how long each one is.
Prerequisites Can Add Months Before You Start
An accelerated clock usually starts after you're admitted, and some programs make you earn admission first. Colorado Boulder admits you on performance: pass a three-course pathway with a B or better in each. Arizona wants an entry test covering statistics, Python and SQL, plus six credit hours of business coursework.
Northeastern's Applied AI program asks for an engineering or computer technology degree, or statistics coursework, and sends other applicants to the Connect version. That one runs 12 to 24 months and costs $71,079.
If you're short on background, Saint Louis University and Georgetown accept a bachelor's in any field.
What Speed Costs You in Tuition
Tuition on this list runs from $15,750 to $71,079, so a faster degree isn't automatically cheaper or pricier. Colorado Boulder is $15,750, Florida Atlantic is $24,000, West Virginia is $24,150 and Saint Louis University is $24,300. Purdue is $28,500, San Diego is $29,850, Northeastern's Applied AI is $30,500 and UIC's 36-credit degree is $32,256.
Georgetown, at $52,560, is the priciest on this list. Fees are often extra, so ask each school for the full figure.
The cheaper programs here are mostly the ones with strict technical prerequisites, so price out the prep work too.
