How We Chose These Programs
We included every online bachelor's program we could verify whose title names artificial intelligence, machine learning or a close match, plus degree-completion programs for transfer students, which we label. We rank them on cost, outcomes, online flexibility, program depth and track record.
Dakota State appears twice because it offers two degrees at the same price and format. S. is the technical degree, and Artificial Intelligence in Organizations is the business-focused one. The details are on our methodology page.
- Bachelor's level, delivered online
- Ranked on cost, outcomes, flexibility, depth and track record
- Program title names artificial intelligence, machine learning or a close match
Scores are the weighted sum of five factors (Cost 30%, Outcomes 25%, Online Flexibility 20%, Program Depth 10%, Track Record 15%), version 1.0. The methodology page shows the rubric for each factor.

Match the Degree Title to the Work You Want
Two programs with "artificial intelligence" in the name can lead to different jobs, so read the title closely.
Technical degrees go deep on building AI. Western Governors University calls its degree AI Engineering, and the University of Advancing Technology's course list includes machine learning, deep learning and data mining. South College and Full Sail are computer science bachelor's degrees with an artificial intelligence concentration, which gives you a broader software base first.
Business-focused degrees teach you to use AI at work. Arizona State's is called Artificial Intelligence in Business, and Dakota State's Organizations degree covers what AI means for businesses and organizations. Indiana University-Bloomington's degree is a Bachelor of Arts, while Indianapolis lets you pick a B.A. or B.S. track.
If you want to build models, lean toward the B.S. programs with machine learning in the course list. If you want to manage AI projects, the business-focused titles may fit better. Read each program's course list before you decide.
Compare Tuition on the Same Basis
Schools price online bachelor's degrees in three different ways, and the numbers don't line up until you convert them.
Per credit is the most common. Dakota State charges $373.80 per credit hour, Grand Canyon $490 and Tennessee $490 in-state or $565 out-of-state. Maryland Global Campus charges $337 in-state, $499 out-of-state and $250 for military students. Dakota State also notes that out-of-state online computer science courses run $491.50 per credit.
Per term is different. Western Governors University charges $4,200 per six-month term, so finishing faster costs less. The University of Advancing Technology charges $10,300 per 12-credit semester plus a $495 resource fee.
Some schools print no price. Arizona State and Colorado Technical University point you to a calculator, so request a written estimate before you compare.
Read Graduation Rates Before You Enroll
A graduation rate is the share of students who finish. The figures here come from federal data and cover the whole school, not just the AI degree, but they still show how well a school keeps students enrolled.
Indiana University-Bloomington is at 80 percent and Tennessee at 74. Indiana University-Indianapolis is at 54 percent and Dakota State at 51 percent. Western Governors University is at 46 percent, Full Sail at 44 percent and Grand Canyon at 43 percent. The University of Advancing Technology is at 35 percent, Maryland Global Campus at 33 percent and Colorado Technical University at 19 percent.
A low number doesn't mean you will fail. It means you should ask about advising, tutoring and how many students in your program finish, and whether the school is public, nonprofit or for-profit.
Plan Your Pace and Transfer Credit
Four years of full-time study is the usual assumption, but pace and prior credit can change that a lot.
Maryland Global Campus accepts up to 90 transfer credits toward its 120, which can cut the remaining coursework sharply. Tennessee estimates 48 months and says the time depends on transfer credits. Western Governors University says about 24 months, and the schedule is self-paced. Colorado Technical University's Fast Track exams can shorten that degree and lower tuition.
Course length matters too. Colorado Technical runs 5-week courses, Grand Canyon 7 weeks, and Arizona State and the University of Advancing Technology 7.5 weeks. Shorter courses mean fewer subjects at once, but each one moves faster. Ask every school for a written transfer evaluation before you apply.
