How We Chose These Programs
A program makes this list when its title or a named concentration points to health, healthcare, medicine, medical or clinical work. It also has to be delivered online, with cost, credits and format confirmed on the school's own pages.
Programs are scored within their degree level, so certificates are only compared with other certificates. We use the total when a school prints only a total. Because the list is small, read each card's note about what the health content actually is.
The details are on the methodology page.
- Health, medicine, medical or clinical in the program title or a concentration
- Delivered online, with cost, credits and format confirmed on the school's own pages
- Ranked by our program score within each degree level; certificates are ranked only against other certificates
Scores are the weighted sum of five factors (Cost 30%, Outcomes 25%, Online Flexibility 20%, Program Depth 10%, Track Record 15%), version 1.0. The methodology page shows the rubric for each factor.

66.9- Fully Online
- Private nonprofit
Why it ranks #1: its school's IPEDS graduation rate is 80% and it is fully online.
Healthcare focusA nurse, pharmacist or physician who wants a full master's rather than a short course belongs here. Saint Louis University starts from Introduction to Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, so no coding is assumed, then moves into clinical topics.
The 30 credits end with a capstone or a graduate internship, which gives you a project to show an employer. Veterans and first responders may qualify for tuition discounts.

Why it ranks #2: its school awards about 413 master's degrees a year in this field per IPEDS and it offers 3 concentrations.
Healthcare focusChoose this if healthcare is one interest among several and you have a technical background. The core is general AI, but a Biomedical Engineering concentration and a course called AI for Wearables and Healthcare let you lean toward medical devices and data. UNT's 33 credits take two to three years, and bridge courses in programming help if your degree is from another field. It's less clinical than the medicine-specific degrees.

Why it ranks #3: it is fully online and asynchronous with 16-week terms, and it offers 8 concentrations.
Healthcare focusHealthcare managers who will buy, approve and oversee AI tools, not build them, are the fit. Cincinnati's business college offers a Health Care Administration concentration, and courses cover governance of AI and ML systems. The 30 credits are asynchronous and cost $34,350 for Ohio residents. Any bachelor's field is accepted with a B average. Don't expect clinical content like imaging or diagnostics; this is a management degree.

Why it ranks #4: it is fully online.
Healthcare focusPre-med graduates and working clinicians who want medical AI from a public university can apply here, since it's open to current and future medical professionals. The coursework includes the legal and ethical side of AI in medicine, useful if you'll sign off on algorithm-assisted decisions. Check the delivery details yourself. The page lists campus as the main format and online as an option, and it gives no credits or price.

Decide Whether You Need a Clinical Program or a General One
The seven programs here are not the same kind of degree, and the title won't always tell you.
Some are clinical from the first course. Saint Louis University's M.S. includes Reinforcement Learning for Clinical Decision Making and Natural Language Processing in Medicine, and it's offered through the School of Medicine. Yale's program is offered by the Yale School of Medicine and covers FDA regulation and clinical risk management. UCF's certificate is run through its College of Nursing.
Others are general AI degrees with a health thread. The University of North Texas lists Biomedical Engineering as one of three concentrations and has a course called AI for Wearables and Healthcare. Cincinnati's M.S. in Artificial Intelligence Management lists Health Care Administration among eight concentration and certificate options.
If you want to work inside a hospital or health system, start with the clinical programs. If you want a broader AI degree you can point toward health later, the general ones may give you more room.
Match the Admissions Bar to Your Background
Admissions is where these programs split most sharply.
Saint Louis University designed its master's for clinicians, healthcare providers and working professionals, and says no computer science or advanced mathematics background is required. Its certificate says it emphasizes clinical application over coding. Neither requires the GRE.
Yale goes the other way. It asks for an undergraduate degree in a technical field, such as computer science, data science, engineering, statistics or medicine, along with relevant professional experience. Applicants must live in the United States, Canada or Mexico.
UCF's certificate is open to students from nursing, medicine, public health, computer science, health informatics and related disciplines, and the prerequisite is a bachelor's degree. Cincinnati accepts a bachelor's degree in any field with at least a B average and doesn't require the GRE.
A nurse with no coding experience and an engineer who wants to move into medical software are looking at different programs here.
Compare Total Cost, Not Just Per-Credit Rates
The published numbers aren't directly comparable, so line them up yourself.
Saint Louis University's certificate is 9 credits at $810, or $7,290 in tuition, with other charges possible. Yale prints $51,100 for the full two-year program. Cincinnati's 30-credit master's runs $1,160 per credit for non-residents and $1,145 for Ohio residents, which the school lists as $34,800 and $34,350 including fees. UNT publishes an estimate of tuition and fees for Texas residents across its 33 credits, and it varies with residency.
UCF is the clearest case of residency changing the bill. A Florida resident pays $327.32 per credit and a non-resident pays $1,234.15, so the nine-credit certificate is $2,945.88 or $11,107.35.
Some programs on this list don't print a full tuition on the pages we reviewed. Email admissions for a written total, including fees. Veterans and active military may also find discounts. Saint Louis University and UCF both describe military benefits on their pages. For more ways to lower the price, see our cheapest online AI degrees list.
Check the Schedule and Any Required Travel
Most programs here are fully online, and one isn't.
Yale's program is online with an in-person requirement. Each semester begins with a one-week immersion in New Haven, and courses combine asynchronous lectures with live Zoom sessions. It takes two years part-time. Budget for the travel and the time off work.
Cincinnati's degree is asynchronous with spring and fall starts. Full-time students finish in about 12 months, and part-time students take about 36. UNT lists two to three years.
Saint Louis University's pages say its programs are offered fully online or in person, so confirm which format you're enrolling in. UCF notes that not all elective options or program prerequisites may be offered online, which is worth asking about before you apply.
If your shifts change week to week, favor the asynchronous options. For a wider look at flexible degrees, see our online AI degrees for working adults list.
