Verdict
Our Verdict on the M.Eng.
This is the engineering-side AI master's at Cincinnati, a 30-credit non-thesis degree that ends in a capstone building new models and algorithms. It's meant for people with an engineering or computer science bachelor's, and it differs from Cincinnati's business-side AI master's in who it's built for and what it asks you to build.
The University of Cincinnati is a public research university in Cincinnati, Ohio, accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The Master of Engineering in AI with Science and Engineering Applications is taught 100% online.
It's a 30-credit, non-thesis curriculum. UC says flexible offerings let you finish in as little as one year, and you can enroll in the spring, summer or fall semesters.
Online
The Online Format
UC says instruction is 100% online. Ask whether classes are asynchronous or scheduled. The business-side MS in AI Management is described as asynchronous, but we can't assume the same of this degree.
The one-year pace is optional but demanding. Finishing 30 credits in as little as a year means taking a heavy load across three semesters.
If you work full time, ask what a realistic part-time schedule looks like and how long it takes.

Fit
Who Should Apply, and Who Should Not
Who It Fits
- You have a bachelor's in computer science or engineering with a 3.0 GPA or higher, and you want applied AI for science and engineering problems.
- You want speed. UC says you can finish in as little as one year, with three starts a year.
- You want to end with something you built. The capstone project displays proficiency in building new models and algorithms.
Who Should Skip It
- You don't have an engineering or computer science bachelor's. The business-side MS in AI Management at Cincinnati is open to any field, so start there instead.
- You want a thesis. UC describes this degree as non-thesis.
- You want a published price to plan around.
Curriculum
Curriculum
UC describes a 30-credit, non-thesis curriculum that culminates in a capstone project showing you can build new models and algorithms. That's the clearest picture the program page gives.
Ask for the course sequence, which courses are electives, and what kinds of science and engineering applications the capstone projects tackle.
That last question matters because the degree's name promises applications, and you'll want to see which ones.
Standout Features
- Capstone project building new models and algorithms, guided by faculty on current AI trends
- Graduates prepared for roles with local employers such as Procter & Gamble, Kroger and Fifth Third Bank
- Capstone
- Capstone project building new models and algorithms.
- Thesis
- No

Cost
Tuition and Fees
The degree is 30 credits, so your total is the credit count times the per-credit rate UC quotes you for this program. UC's online fee table lists separate resident and non-resident rates for its MS in AI Management, but it doesn't list a separate row for this M.Eng.
That makes the written quote the thing to get. Ask UC for the tuition and fee total, and whether in-state and out-of-state students pay differently. Three starts a year lets you time your first semester around your budget.
Veterans have extra options. UC accepts the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill and other VA benefits, offers the Yellow Ribbon Program beyond the G.I. Bill, and waives the application fee for active-duty and veteran applicants.
- Credits Required
- 30 credits
- Military Benefits
- Post-9/11 G.I. Bill, Montgomery G.I. Bill and other VA benefits accepted, with the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill covering up to 100% of tuition and fees at the maximum benefit; Yellow Ribbon Program available to cover costs beyond G.I. Bill benefits; application fee waived for active-duty and veteran applicants.
