Verdict
Our Verdict on the Graduate Certificate
This is a finance-focused AI certificate from the University of Cincinnati's Lindner College of Business. It's 12 credits, 100% online and asynchronous, and it teaches you to build machine learning models on real financial data. It's the right pick if your work is investing, risk or analysis. It's also pricier than most, at $13,740 in tuition for residents.

Online
How the Online Classes Work
UC calls the program 100% online with asynchronous learning, so you won't log in at a set hour. It adds that students get support from dedicated UC Online staff from enrollment through graduation, including an enrollment advisor and a student success coordinator.
UC says you can finish in two to three semesters, which is 9 to 12 months. With five courses of 2 or 3 credits each, you'd take them in a few clusters.
Asynchronous doesn't mean light. Ask how many hours a week students typically spend on the Python-based coursework, and whether there are deadlines inside each course.

Fit
Who Should Apply, and Who Should Not
Who It Fits
- You work in finance, investing, banking or fintech and want machine learning and algorithmic trading skills.
- You hold a bachelor's degree in any field. UC doesn't limit applicants to finance majors.
- You want asynchronous study that fits around a full-time job.
- You may go on to a Lindner graduate degree, since UC says certificate credits can be applied to those programs.
Who Should Skip It
- You don't work with financial data. The courses are built around markets, trading and investment analysis, so a broader AI certificate will serve you better.
- You haven't used Python. UC says no AI tool experience is required, but a basic background in Python and information systems is desired.
- You're counting every dollar. At $1,145 per credit, this costs more than certificates like Stevens' or Old Dominion's.
Curriculum
Curriculum
UC lists 12 credits of required core, with no electives. The courses are FIN7031 Financial Econometrics (3 credits), FIN7032 Quantitative Equity Investing (2), FIN7047 on fintech and cryptocurrency (2), FIN7053 Algorithmic Trading (2) and FIN7057 Financial Applications of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (3).
The machine learning course is the centerpiece. UC says it covers return prediction, risk management and portfolio optimization, plus large language models for analyzing financial text, using Python and standard libraries.
The rest of the sequence is finance-heavy, so expect statistics, factor investing and trading strategy alongside the AI.
Cost
How Much It Costs at $1,145 a Credit
UC lists a resident total cost of $1,145 per credit hour and a non-resident total cost of $1,160. At 12 credits, the resident total comes to $13,740.
UC's graduate certificate application fee is $20 for domestic applicants, and UC says application fees are waived for Spring 2027 applications submitted by November 1, 2026. Check whether that waiver covers your situation.
The per-credit figure is called a total cost, which suggests fees are folded in. Ask UC to confirm that in writing, along with the exact non-resident total for 12 credits.
12 credits at $1,145 a credit comes to $13,740 in tuition, before fees.
