Verdict
Our Verdict on the Graduate Certificate
This nine-credit certificate is for people already working in or studying healthcare who want to apply AI to patient care, research, education or administration. It is short and, for Florida residents, inexpensive. It's a narrow credential rather than a broad AI foundation, and it's new. A nurse or health informatics professional should weigh the health focus most.
The University of Central Florida is a public research university in Orlando. The AI in Health Graduate Certificate is offered through the UCF College of Nursing, and UCF says it begins Fall 2026.
The certificate is 9 credit hours beyond the bachelor's degree, and UCF delivers it fully online. The school says not all elective options or program prerequisites may be offered online, so read that caveat closely.
Because it launches this fall, there's no track record of graduates yet. That's normal for a new credential, but it's worth knowing.
Online
The Online Format
UCF delivers the certificate fully online. The first start is Fall 2026. Ask whether classes are asynchronous or live, how long terms run and how many starts there are each year.
The caveat about electives and prerequisites matters most here. If a course you'd choose has an on-campus piece, you'd want to know before you pay for it. Ask which exact course combinations are available entirely online.

- Not all elective options or program prerequisites may be offered online.

Fit
Who Should Apply, and Who Should Not
Who It Fits
- You're a nurse, physician, public health worker or health informatics professional and want a focused credential. UCF says it's open to nursing, medicine, public health, computer science, health informatics and related disciplines.
- You want to try graduate coursework in a small piece before committing to a full degree.
- You're a Florida resident. The in-state rate is what makes this certificate a bargain.
Who Should Skip It
- You need a general AI foundation. The coursework is aimed at healthcare practice, research, education and administration, not building machine learning systems from scratch.
- You live outside Florida and watch cost closely. The out-of-state rate is more than three times the in-state one.
- You want a credential with a long record. The certificate is new this fall.
Curriculum
What You Will Study
UCF names four courses: Essentials of AI in Health, AI Data Analysis and Research in Health, Augmented, Virtual, and Mixed Realities in Healthcare, and Innovative Technologies in Healthcare. Two of those are numbered at the doctoral level, which tells you the nursing college is pitching this to people with clinical or research roles.
The certificate has two required core courses plus one elective, and the only prerequisite is a bachelor's degree. Ask whether there's a capstone. UCF's note that some electives may not be offered online suggests a choice exists. Ask for the exact path that stays fully online.
