Score
How the Score Adds Up
Each factor is scored 0 to 10 against other online graduate certificate programs. The weights are the same for every program, and the overall score is relative to the top online graduate certificate program, which scores 100.
Online Program Score 70.5 / 100

Online
How the Online Classes Work
Study is asynchronous, and the page says there are no scheduled meeting times. Courses follow an accelerated 8-week format with 3 starts a year, and the program can be finished in as little as one year.
For a working teacher, the start dates matter more than the format. A course that begins in the middle of a grading period or right before exams will be harder than one that begins at the start of a break, so look at the calendar and pick a start that gives you room.

Fit
Who Should Apply, and Who Should Not
Who It Fits
- You teach, coach or design training and want to understand what AI tools mean for your students or learners.
- You are on a school or district team that has to write guidelines for AI use in the classroom.
- You hold a bachelor's degree and want a graduate credential that fits around a full-time job.
Who Should Skip It
- You do not work in or near education. The business strategy and operations certificate shares the same two core courses but aims at managers.
- You want to be licensed or move up a pay scale. Ask your district first whether this certificate counts toward teacher licensure.
- You want deep coding and model building, which this certificate does not list.
Curriculum
What You Will Study
The two shared courses give you the general picture. Artificial Intelligence Methods and Models explains what these systems do, and Artificial Intelligence Ethics and Policy raises the questions about fairness, privacy and appropriate use that matter in classrooms.
The courses that set this certificate apart are Foundations of AI in Education and Learning Technologies and Applications of AI in Education and Learning Technologies. The first title suggests background and theory, and the second suggests practice. Ask whether you will design a lesson, tool or policy as a final product, and whether you can build it around your own school or workplace.

Accreditation and Where It Leads
You earn a graduate certificate from Old Dominion University, a public university in Norfolk. Federal data show a 46% graduation rate and a 90% admit rate for the school as a whole, which says little about this certificate.
To apply, you need a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution or an international equivalent, and you apply as a non-degree graduate student. Ask in writing whether credits apply to a degree later or to a license.

Trade-Offs
Drawbacks to Weigh
- It is not described as a teaching license or an endorsement, so it may not move you up a salary schedule.
- Ask whether the certificate ends in a capstone or practicum, since you may not finish with a portfolio piece.
- Eight-week courses are compressed, which is hard during the busiest weeks of a school year.
- Non-degree status can affect eligibility for financial aid.
